I was idly looking at flight prices to the UK today, and found a promise of $101 return (that's about 50p in English money) to Manchester. Following it through it turns out that although the fare is that little, the airport taxes are $190. RIP OFF.
I'm thoroughly exhausted today. We had a busy weekend with having to evacuate for prospective buyers (FREAK OUT FREAK OUT HOUSE HAS BEEN ON THE MARKET ALMOST A WEEK AND NOT SOLD FREAK OUT FREAK OUT FREAK OUT), and did alot of eating out, shopping, and socialising. I think the exhaustion, however, has more to do with coming down with a cold or something.... and the change in the weather to be absolutely bloody freezing again. So much so that the heat has had to go back on.
It's also exhausting trying to keep this place tidy. I swear I spend all day and all evening walking behind the boys picking up the crap they leave in their wake.
Posted by katie at April 25, 2005 06:57 PMThe Powers That Be keep talking about outlawing these deceptive airfare ads, in which they advertise the airfare and then have a gazillion lines of small print listing all the taxes, fees, surcharges, etc. which, as you noticed, often total much more than the "airfare" itself. One carrier used to offer $1 tickets, counting on making money off all the other stuff (but they went under so I guess it didn't work out for them!)
Relax about the house. It's a lovely house and it will sell. One week is not that long. Just keep picking up the crap and try not to live in your own house in the meantime :-)
Posted by: Steve at April 25, 2005 08:09 PMAnd you think a week is a long time? We've been on the market for coming up for 10 weeks now and so far we've only had 1 offer which was 8k under asking and the reason they gave for not offering more was that they could "get better value elsewhere".
This is a 2 bed flat in South London that has been completely rennovated and all the agents who've seen it have said it should/will sell "no problem". Even our agent keeps saying "I don't understand why it hasn't sold yet".
I think we might pull off until after the election...

But, we have to be OUT by June 30th and in the US.. and if not sold get dinged by the tax man, not to mention not be able to afford to live anywhere there.
