G set the alarm last night when we went to bed and promptly forgot about it this morning - opening a window and setting it off. Bloody hell it's loud. It's a wonder any of us have ear drums left (I hope the baby wasn't too upset by it!). 10 mins later my friend rings up because the alarm company have called her after trying and failing to get through to us (flat mobiles, oops!)! Apparently they weren't too concerned about the accidental setting off of the alarm but the fact that GARETH TOOK ONE OF THE SENSORS APART TO SEE HOW IT WORKED. Men!
Meanwhile we're working on the next project downstairs - what was used as a library and will now be used temporarily as a guest room then eventually Dylan's new bedroom. The first thing that needs doing in there is fixing a large crack which runs the length of the concrete floor. We think it probably happened in the big earthquake here - it's not a big deal structurally but it means the floor is uneven, so G has been laying 'levelling compound' to fix it before we put new carpet down. Once that's done we start on the paintwork and putitng new trim in. Off now to Home Depot to fight Dylan on paint colours - he wants something far too dark!
