Last night I had my baby shower. Being a Brit these things are a fairly foreign concept. In Canada as all my friends were 'local' they threw me one for Harry i keeping with local tradition.....which was really lovely, although a twist on the usual in that we had men there too and everyone (except me) drank alot!
My friends here are mostly British and our tradition here when someone is pregnant is that everyone clubs in and buys a gift and we have a little celebration to mark the occasion. I chose a girls night out as my occasion rather than an afternoon thing because, well, I enjoy nights out more and also I figure they will be fewer and further between for a while.
We went to this really nice restaurant in Bellevue and there were 10 of us. We had a very good laugh and the evening just flew by! I got a gorgeous blanket for the baby as my gift.... (they had previously asked me what I wanted and I'd told them..... it's the softest pink chenille with a pink satin edge, absolutely lovely. And as a surprise I also got a voucher for fresh made home delivered meals for when the baby comes! I obviously won't want to be doing a great deal of cooking in the immediate aftermath of the c-section and newborns are exhausting too, so having food made and delivered? Bliss. Also with G in charge of the kitchen for some of that time this might mean we actually get to eat proper food and not live on McDonalds. Yay!
As well as these two amazing gifts, I got a lovely little dress from one of my friends and a joke present called a 'Voodoo Husband' which is a voodoo doll with various things written on it, and you stick pins in depending what you want your husband to do........ such as 'take children out' and 'change nappies' and 'cook dinner' etc. lol.
It was such a good evening - and 1.30am before I got home which is really blooming late for me these days! Quite knackered this morning. Managed to perk up though as I went for a pedicure ... nails desperately needed doing and I cannot reach them. Dylan came with me and got to sit in the massage chair beside mine which he thought was marvellous. The woman doing the pedicure was amazing - she gave me about a 20 min leg massage because I'm pregnant (which made the world of difference to my circulation and swelling) and told me her life story which included escaping Vietman on a small boat to Thailand and desperately hunting for her husband and son who had got away on an earlier boat. Fascinating woman.
