Working Out

Trying to get my body back into something resembling fitness and slimness but it's not easy, especially with my current tendency to 'comfort eat' at every opportunity. I crave food. I read an interview yesterday with some pop star who had her stomach stapled and lost 100lb or so. She said that despite the success she still craved food all the time and she had resigned herself to the fact that she always would. That's me that is. I love food too, I CRAVE sweet things almost like drugs.... sugar is my heroin.

Anyway, I have started to go to the gym 3 x per week and first off I'm pounding the treadmill to get my heart pumping and raise my level of cardio fitness slightly and then I'll start doing muscle work after the New Year.

Another good thing about the gym, btw, is the Spa. It is *so* posh in there. I went last night for a facial (45 mins of excrutiating blackhead squeezing) and was rather taken aback by just how posh it is.... lounge areas with squishy sofa's to sit and relax in, food ordered for you by staff, the softest robes you ever wore, unreal...... how the other half live !

Flood!

Managed to flood the house last night. I had been downstairs to show my neighbour the work in progress and left the door open, which I never do, but it turned out to be a bloody good job I did as I suddenly heard running water coming from below. I ran down wondering what on earth it could be and discovered water cascading out of the vent in the ceiling in the downstairs bathroom. I ran back upstairs to find the source and found a toilet busily pumping water over the top onto the floor and into the floor vent.

With the aid of Dylan I managed to stop the flow and grabbed 10 thousand towels from the linen closet and began the mop up process. Thankfully I got to it in time to stop it ruining the new drywall in the downstairs hallway!

Cult Cafe

At the weekend we popped into a discrict of Seattle called Freemont for a wander. A cutsie neighbourhood with a large street market on Sundays and lots of cafe's and restaurants. They also have, oddly, a troll under the bridge there.

For lunch we stopped at this Vegetarian Cafe for Brunch (they did great eggs) and discovered it was run by a Cult following the 'teachings' of some spud called Sri Chimnoy. The women serving staff were all in their late 40's wearing Sari's, none of them wore wedding rings, and all had very vacant expressions - the kind you read about brainwashed cult members having. A quick google when we got home revealed what you'd also expect to read about these types of things - sexual abuse and the like. An interesting experience to say the least.

Harry - 16 months

Hey big boy, another month gone by.

So what is to tell this month? You have started to make more noises.... 'down' is a definite favourite. 'Ook!' when you want me to look at something. 'Okay' 'Buh Bye' 'Errow' (hello), and the old favourites of 'mumum, daddad and dindin'. All very cute indeed.

Of course the big news this month is the walking... you can do approximately 8 steps by yourself before bum splatting to the floor or grabbing onto something for assistance. You will push a walking toy around for hours but haven't quite got the confidence to run off by yourself yet. Still, progress has definitely been made and at least 3 months earlier than your big bro did it! You can tell him that when you're older and he's claiming to be more intelligent...'well I walked before you did!'.

You're absolutely into *everything* these days which means you need a very close eye kept on you at all times. Cupboards are a big favourite. I finally got Daddy to put locks on the bleach and knife cupboards so you settle for emptying saucepans and plastic onto the kitchen floor and clothes and books in the bedroom. I have to be absolutely scrupulous about keeping the bathroom doors shut at the moment as whenever you see an opportunity you are in there and I'm terrified you'll start playing with the loo or drown yourself. Or spray yourself with perfume (already done twice) or empty bottles of moisturizer over yourself (also done).

I think you're going to be a musical little chap. You love baby music classes still and you love to dance and jig to music. Yesterday morning I saw you dancing by the TV and assumed you were still watching the end of Teletubbies as I was loading the dishwasher. However, when I came into the room I discovered you had changed the channel and were watching a morning work-out aerobic show and were copying the women on there! Hilarious!

You are still very cuddly and come to me for 'loves' all the time. You're also quite content to sit on my knee and relax with a toy or book, giving cuddles and snuggling. This especially true of the last few weeks while you've been fighting off one cold or virus after another. There's been a few things going around and you have been unlucky, currently shaking off the end of a cough. Hopefully you'll be all cleared up for our trip to the UK in a couple of weeks.

I can't wait to see your little face when Santa has visited!

Love you Choochy Face

First Steps

One of my friends has a cabin in the mountains and offered it to us this weekend for a much needed break. It was fabulous - a hair raising drive up 4000 ft of mountain in the dark and heavy snow, followed by arriving at this lovely place they have there tucked away in lots of tall trees.

It was a great weekend, we managed to relax and enjoy spending time together (something lacking over the last few months with all the DIY) and the boys had fun. We went into the local village which is an amusing tourist place done up like a Bavarian village and full of souvenir shops. We enjoyed driving around the beautiful scenery, and we relaxed in the cabin.

Harry took his first steps which is the big news of the weekend. He turned to me from where he was standing holding on to something and took around 10 shaky steps towards me. I cheered, Dylan cheered, and we raced up stairs holding Harry to where G was getting out of the shower. I put him down and he walked 10 more steps to his Dad! He was so proud of himself, bless him.

Tomorrow the Drywall delivery man is coming to drop off the equipment necessary for the downstairs room and hall and then on Tuesday the men start the job which should hopefully be completed with in a week - hurrah.

HE has gone snowboarding

Despite HE being unable to get home at a reasonable time each day, despite HE having no spare time whatsoever to do anything I want him to do, HE can find a whole day to take off to go snowboarding. GRRRRR.

Normality Resumed

H is finally sleeping properly again during the day. Not enough, but properly. He's down to about 1.5 hrs of sleep which is definitely nowhere near the amount his little body requires. He is awake from 12 onwards, usually, and 7 hours of hard playing takes it right out of him before bedtime meaning he's barely able to function by the end of the day, crying at every bump and ever time something doesn't go his way. Not entirely sure how to fix that, I guess his nap moving slowly later as the weeks pass will resolve it to a decent afternoon sleep at some point.

DIY Disasters #1 & #2

G managed to knock himself out on Saturday after the drywall hoist collapsed on top of him. He staggered upstairs with blood pouring out of his head and was feeling dizzy and sick. We went to the ER (an hour from start to finish can you believe?) and they diagnosed concussion. On Sunday while attempting to dismantle the drywall hoist to take back to Home Depot he trapped his finger in it and said finger is now black.

I have now forbidden him from doing any more Drywalling and am attempting to get a contractor in to finish the job. Which, although expensive, should mean it gets done a bloody lot faster than it otherwise would have.

The one where I realise it DOES actually rain all the time here

At least, it has done since Monday pretty much non stop. Miserable. On the plus side though, up higher it is SNOWING and the slopes apparently are opening today!

Nap Nightmare

*SCREAM*

Over the last few days Harry has developed an aversion to napping and also going to bed at night. I don't know what's the matter with him. He is tired, he cannot function to play, he is rubbing his eyes, he is put down for a nap as usual and hysterical screaming commences. As I write this he's just dropped off after an hour and 15 mins of non stop crying and screaming. I've been in to him 100 times to try to settle him, blowed if I'm getting him out and letting him 'win' , and in the end had to let him cry himself to sleep. Which I hate doing. HATE HATE HATE.

It stresses me more than him, as I sit here in tears listening to the poor little thing.

What the bloody hell is wrong with him sleeping all of a sudden? Last night G had to pin his arms to his sides and rock him to get him to calm down and go off. He's not in pain. He's not sick. He's very tired, but he thinks he's missing out on something? I don't know,

ARGHGHGGHGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
